.On Tuesday, November 16 Sports Interactive's Miles Jacobson will join to take your questions on the brand new game, Football Manager 2005.Miles is Managing Director of SI - the creator of the Championship Manager series of football management games and now the company behind the new smash hit football management simulation, Football Manager. This year will be recognised as a watershed in SI?s development: the company has ended its long-standing relationship with the game publisher Eidos and, as a result, no longer has any involvement with Championship Manager. Michael (Seattle, USA)Miles, CM has always been the absolute best video game on the planet, and I'm waiting with great anticipation for FM2005 which should be coming in the mail shortly!
One issue I know has always been problematic is regens. They simply have NEVER been of the same standard as the original players. Ten seasons into the game, it is impossible to make a dream team of Vieiras and Zidanes because the players are simply not that good anymore. Can we expect something different from FM2005?
(12:51 PM)Hi Michael. Before I answer your question, FM will be known as 'Worldwide Soccer Manager' in the US, has an MLS license for the first time, and will be in all good retailers at the end of November. A lot of work has gone into regens this year, and current abilities and potential abilities are pretty much spot on.
However, there are a couple of minor issues with some of the stats, and these will be fixed in a patch - we're working with some of the community to analyse these changes, and will not release the patch until we are happy with them. Andrew - Calgary, CANADAMiles, great game.

I've been playing since '96 and every year you seem to top yourselves. Of course this has kept me from doing something 'useful' with my life, but I'm not complaining. My question has to with with match instructions for individual players: for a while now we've had the option to give specific instructions to players. Are there any plans to expand that option?
Always managin Rangers there's nothing more frustrating than watching Peter Lovenkrands use his fantastic pace to get into open space and then have him ignore an open man and batter the ball wide. (Just like real life, really).
It would be grand to have a 'Don't Shoot EVER' tick box to solve this problem. And also to give more options to specific actions a manager can have their players take in a game. Nguyen Hoang Thanh DuyHi Miles, I am a CM/FM fan from far far away Vietnam. Hope you know my country.
I have been playing the game since CM Italy. My question is very simple. Would SI intend to add the Vietnamese Premier Football League into the game as you did with Singapore?
Vietnamese Premier League is considered as one of the best league in South East Asia and is supported strongly by the givernment. All of our 80 million of people are football fans. If you noticed the news lately, we marked our name onto the world football map by defeating the FIFA World Cup 4th Team Korea, and in the South East Asia, we constantly stand in top 3. Also, our league attracts many top players in the region, for instance Kiatisuk (Thailand). So I would like to make a proposal to have a Vietnamese Premier League in FM 2006.
I am very happy to be the researcher here. If you are worried about the license for the names, logos, etc then it will not be a prolem.

Licensing in Vietnam is very cheap (can you imagine the live and clean signal for the match between Vietnam National Football Team and Korea National Football Team only cost.3000USD?). Thanks, Duy Miles.
Rey13 (Croatia)I have three questions: 1. When my player tries to past the oponnent near the goal kick line, oponnent tackles or gets header and knocks ball into a corner, instead of corner it becames a goal kick.
Even a commentator says that oponnent played last with the ball. It happens very often. 2.The game is too easy. My friend, who is playing with Milan, has won Olympiakos 11-0,Lyon 8-0,Werder Bremen 14-0 away, and I have beaten great team of Valencia with Barcelona 8-0. Finnaly,I would like to know what is about A.C. Milan youth team.
Are they having the most talented youngsters in the world, better then most of the europen senior players Miles. Hull, East YorkshireThierry Henry (arsenal) is classed as one on the best strikers in the world yet your stats never seem to compliment this, WHY? In cm4 it was a disgrace to start as arsenal and see Henry's finishing a poor 13.
I admit that his stats have been better in later editions but still not as high as some players that in reality are not as good, examples are; Van Nistelrooy, Raul, Ronaldo, Vieri etc. Other then this TOP Marks for a truly OUTSTANDING set of games, especially Football Manager 2005. (1:07 PM)Soccercenter.net - there are no Turkish pictures as we don't have a license to use them. Turkish language may well come in the future, but only if you can stop people in your country pirating our game and get them to buy it instead! It's estimated that there are over 50,000 people in Turkey playing Football Manager, yet the distributor there takes less than 1,000 copies, which doesn't justify the expense of translating 500,000 words into Turkish as yet as I hope you can understand. It's not really fair on those who do buy the game legitimately, but it's not fair on us that so many people steal from us.
Hopefully, as copy protection gets better, it will be possible to add in a lot more local languages. Tman (japan)Hi Miles, I am one of the staff at SI affilated 'FM Japan'. The japanese FM community are very keen to hear how the Japanese version is getting, regardeless of whether they have bought the UK version (including myself!) or not. When will the demo be released? Any step forward to the licesing issue? And when is it likely for the game to be released? I understand if some issues cannot be dicussed, but would love to see any screenshots and things.
Perhaps we can put it up on the FMJapan website, as we are part of SIAS.! Regards, T-man Miles. JackHi Miles. I am really enjoying the game.
I want to ask about 2 things. Firstly, about the leagues in the game. I understand Fm is a global brand and having lots of worldwide leagues is important.
However, I honestly believe the game would be improved if some of the more obscure leagues like Belarus and Israel were sacrificed in favour of more non-league divisions in England. I would imagine a poll of fans would reveal that more people would play games as AFC Telford or AFC Wimbledon (big clubs in non league despite their low position)than any team in the countries mentioned above (No disrespect to those countries) It seems to me that the leagues being added are somewhat useless to most players whereas Non league below the conference is being ignored. This seems especially odd seeing as SI sponsor a team so far down the pyramid in AFC Wimbledon. I think this is a suggestion lots of fans would go for. I understand research is tough, but I personally believe this would be simple - every non-league club has someone who could help you I am sure!
Secondly, whilst the media element has been significantly improved in FM 2005, I just wanted to ask how possible it would be to have more control over what you say, rather than the preset comments that can get quite repetitive. This is not a criticism, I just wondered how feasible that would be for future versions of Football Manager. Well done and keep up the good work - FM 2005 is top class.
Joe, SussexMiles, when playing online there is a speed issue no matter who hosts it is slow, i am not the only one to experiance this problem has this been fixed? Is there anything i can do to fix it? Chris, Gloucester UKDo you think that, in the first few seasons of the game, the EPL is too easy to win (or at least do extraordinarily well) for sides other than Arsenal, Man Utd & Chelsea?
I am not talking about too many high scores, just the ability to conquers ones Premiership peers too easily. Aljarov: Lexington, KYActually, I had a lot of MLS questions but Duffy stole your thunder earlier today and did me the honour of answering them.;) I will ask though, when can we expect to see more of a focus on the player interaction in the game. I think too much emphasis has been placed on the manager mindgames and not enough on actually ocmmunicating with your team.especially at half time. I think some form of HT team talk would be a huge step forward for the game. When will you make Warrington Town Playable?!
Chris Cain, Manchester, England.Firstly I would like to say congratulations on a smooth transition from Eidos to Sega, without upsetting the loyal fan base. The game has been well received it seems, by reading the SI Forums. I would like to ask if at any stage the team were frustrated with the numerous 'Bugs'/'Problems' that were reported in the 03/04 game? It seemed that SI came in for alot of flack from a large percentage of the fans. Did this knock the confidence or make you determined to work harder to resolve the problems? Mikey78following on from Fred's question about making 'stands' appear in games.
What about the idea of altering look of 2d matches in future - trying to create more atmosphere? I think FM is largely about a 'feeling' and addiction.
Am not trying to suggest this just for aesthetic reasons but because i think if you could somehow make night matches in feb in the fa cup feel different to early season league matches in august it's be fab:) (floodlights?) And same with big matches - make cup final pitches like Millenium stadium etc appear noticably bigger/different somehow - all in interests of atmosphere rather than pretty graphics you understand! MaxiboostHi Miles. Firstly quality stuff - great game and thank you for all of your hard work. Forget about the moaners, you boys done well and I for one appreciate everything that has gone in to making this game. One quick question - would/have you considered ever making the data within FM sync with a PDA so you can go away and search for players?
The GUI wouldn't have to be too in-depth, but it would be great when I am at work to look for players, select them for my shortlist and then sych it with the full game when I got home! I'm not talking full game on the PDA (yet!) but do you think this would be possible? Keep up the good work lads! Cheers, Steve Miles.
Chris, Glos UKIf you don't think it's too easy to do well in the EPL, then how come I'm top of the Premiership in January (games first season) having played basically every team off the park only using a basic 4-4-2normal tactic with no alterations ever? No good player lists used, no FM scout etc. I don't mind doing well with Everton, (because this season IRL hard work has produced a splendid run of results) but why is my success being handed to me on a plate rather than me having to earn it, as has been the case at the start of the CM games? I'm playing wonderfully attractive football against all comers, and seem to be able to dominate the big three when I play them.
Ain't right I reckon. Paul, Essex, UKTo Stan from leeds why don't you just shut the hell up. Seriously, SI have made some of the best selling games of all time, Miles and the rest of the team are obviously going to have a lot of fans, he would not need to post under any other name. Another reason why he wouldn't need too, is because to EVERYONE who reads this you would appear to be a pathetic idiot. Enough people would snap back at you.
Miles, sorry if my lil' rant gets in the way.just can't believe some people! Why is there always a loser who comes to these particular things just to try and ruin it. And before i'm prediatably accused of being Miles. The 'joke' wore thin first time round.
Question to Miles: Do you have a particular memory of a season, match or game, from an SI football Sim that stays with you in the memory? Duy Nguyen, VietnamMiles, do you see the trend that all the games in this age have, by some way, intentionally turned to a more attractive user interface with 3D technology (and some multimedia factors, say music.) while SI still (conservatively) keep the traditional one. Is it your strategy to provide a unique face of the series of the game?
Finally Walt Disney had to decide to produce their last 2D cartoon (which once dominated the whole cartoon industry with Donald duck, Mickey mouse. All very famous characters) and turned to produce 3D cartoons?
As SI Managing Director would you forsee if SI have to follow it? I dont mean the match engine as one said with the current technology you cant produce a 3D match engine, what I mean is more stuffs on the UI. (Though TCM is not my favorite, their UI makes me hope one day FM will have a beautiful face of which one really cant hold playing it) Sorry for keeping it going on and on. Thanks, Duy Miles.
Jurgen (Lima now)Miles: (2:57 PM ET ) WHAT I'M GOING TO DO IS GO OFFLINE FOR AN HOUR OR SO, AND THEN ANSWER THE REMAINING ONES LATER ON TONIGHT. Now isn't that dedication?? Alex, NewburyJust wanted to say thanks for another great game: the minor problems are just that and the patch will make it even better I'm sure - it certainly is playable now despite some opinions to the contrary. Can you have arough estimate of how many months and how many people it takes to put the game together, because with this one especially, I can't get my head around how much scope has been covered in the 12 months since the last game. Paul, Essex, UkFirstly a huge thankyou to the guys at SI for making quite simply the best game ever. You lot are my idols, and so i have to think of a question just so i can say you spoke to me.thinks. Its a shame CM 03/04 didnt do as well as CM4 as it was far far better, and playable.(i'm just looking above) Do you feel that you will be able to out sell CM5?
Did you feel the delay of CM5 gave you a bit of an advantage in attaining customers.getting your game out first.? (i know you probably won't answer that sooooooooo in case you don't a second question) Do you feel you will ever outsell CM4 with a FM game? Paul, Essex, UKAlso if it helps, in responce to the guy who said its WAY TOO easy, I got really good at CM 03/04 over time (you learn certain players that you can get anywhere) and i could get leyton Orient into the prem in almost straight seasons (1 settling year in 1st year) and then challenge for the prem in my second year. With FM its nice to h ave to learn again for a bit, I took over the team i support - Fulham, finished 15th, below expectations, and dissapointed by my standards, second year i had played about 8 games and was 17th, i got the sack, and took over at Burscough (only place that i could get a job) in the non-league place, and have started to do well there.
I don't think its too easy, i think it gives you a sense of achievement and when you get good at in and can all teams promoted, a new game comes out! I kow this wasnt a question, but thought it strange someone was complaining about there success. The game would be much more frustrating if it wee too difficult. Kinterhook Von MormonPLEASE! Do not swear!
God is watching you! Swearing will send you straight to hell itself to be sodimised by sad postmen and demons of the very worst kind!
Alan, DublinDo you not think it is irresponsible to launch a game that still contains bugs, every game I have bought since CM3 has failed to work properly until patched by yourselves. A lot of users that I have talked to have experienced problems, anything but an out of the box dell seems to cause problems.
I understand that not every situation can be tested for but some of these issues are obvious, for example slow running games. Its just not good enough, if sage released as many bugs in its software where would buesiness be, its not proper for you to say a 'small number of users' a lot of users that i know have gone back to cm0304 until the patch comes out Miles. (5:22 PM)The vast majority of PC games get patched - it's not a unique thing to SI. My personal belief is that the minor problems that are in FM, that will be fixed with the patch, some of which are affecting only a few users, and some are affecting all, are being blown out of all proportion by our willingness to be open and honest about things on our messageboards.
It's like a big game of chinese whispers, where, all of a sudden, a minor fault makes the game unplayable in others eyes. We are working with the individuals who are having problems to fix those issues, unlike the majority of developers who just ignore things, particularly in the console arena.
San Andreas/Halo 2/Pro Evo 4 all have bugs in, and that's for a specific platform, where is should be easier, but they are still great games, and I believe that FM is too. Reuben, leeds, ukall id like to say is,thanks all SI for a very addictive wonderful enjoying game, and with al the feedback and ideas we fans come up with,we(SI and Fans, after all it is mostly ideas from fans,am i right?)can make a even better game in the future Ray, Louisiana USAYour game is great, and the effort you put in is appreciated. My question is with the new patch will you have to start a new game. Also with tight marking it seemed to make a big difference in the postive of my game results. Should that be adjusted in the patch or is that part of the engine ok.
